Infosys

Ramakrishnan has the following opinion on the review on Infosys

Ramakrishnan said…
Just wanted to contradict certain points becuase this article is quite loud and also clear at some level. I am not sure who is the author of this review and definately not an authentic one. May be someone of the outsider who can write this!

1. MUST be on bench for six months – This is very specific statement and absolutely not practical for a giant like Infosys. At any time, the company maintains a fixed ratio on bench and with strict norms enforced, no more than X days can someone be blocked/benched beyond that time. Other options like transfer to other Business Units/DCs are thought of.

2. Quality of work – It depends in which Business Unit you are put into. The kind of work will always vary in any organisation through any level. But drawing the line on Quality in one statement is highly unfair. There are different kind of projects which are under operation and I wonder if the author ever got the chance to even hear about them.

3. Career Growth – Compared to competetitors in services industry, Infosys is definately best place for growth (FEW Exception cases ALWAYS exists)

4. Unplanned work – Infosys way ahead of its competitors in terms of processes and earned many awards for its process-oriented organization wide system of work

5. Onsite Oppurtunity – Show me any other IT Services where you can move out really fast in a month or two? Having said that, shiney people do take off onsite chances in 8-9 months!

6. Work – Life balance – This is how the industry operates and occasional working on weekend do exists in some projects which are highlighted CRITICAL. But I would say 90% people do not work on weekends. And on other weekdays if you can’t plan other work maybe because of the traffic situation prevailing in the city. People start from home at 6am to reach at 8:30am and again to start at 5pm to reach at 7:30pm

7. Satisfaction with SALARY – If you really need money then start your own business. What I feel is living your dreams is what pays you off.

8. Products – Infosys is NOT a product company but just to enlighten the author: Infosys has spun off few more products 1. OnMobile – through which 60-70% mobile phone value-added contents are provided to telecom operators2. Yantra.com – which is now aquired by AT&T Bell Labs Sterling Commerce.3.And Fincale

9. False publicity of ethics and values – I don’t which incident has left you with a bitter taste but overall on the comparison scale weighing other organization – Infosys ethics are far far far more transparent. You can question any higher level if something is bothering you. And work ethics you need to be here to understand that and then be somehere else to realise the difference.

I don’t know about the internal of Infosys much, but being a outsider i can say that, its brand image is not great specially among entry level employees. It did great work by employing people but if anybody says this is A PRODUCT cos i will not agree with that. Actually it can’t afford to be a product cos when it is doing a good biz in services. Every one sees bottom line dude…

After working with Infy for 2 years, one thing is clear. Infy sucks. All that the board is interested is money and they dont care about anything. People work from conference rooms due to lack of space. 6 people sit in cabins thats were supposed to accommodate 4 people. Huge lines in food courts. Infy stopped going to good institutions (IIT, NIT) because its salary is not competitive. It started roping in BSc and MSc guys for billing to clients and earning profits. Because most of the work is maintenance u will end up doing work on excel sheets and word documents for months, although it is neither useful to u nor to the client (All for the purpose of billing).

Infosys has a great brandname because its employees like Rama are its greatest brand ambassadors. I appriciate you all employees for your committment towards your organization. However, I would like to focus on a few points mentioned by him:

Pay: You don’t need to start a busness to earn more. You just need to join any MNC.

Rama has also mentioned that it is better than its competitors. I am not sure whether infy would like to compete only with Satyam and TCS. There are lot better and bigger IT companies in the world. Why don’t you compare take-home salary of Infy with employees of HP, Logica etc? I would not at all like to compare product-based companies or spin-offs from Infosys(Yantra) which pay multiples of infosys’s package.

  32. None says:

Another point which I did not mention above: Infosys has a great reputation among investers, shareholders and society. And they achieved it at the cost of employees.

  33. Parag says:

    Folks
Infy is gr8 for work-life balance and policies n pay n what not.
Coming on job satisfaction, blame it on the IT slow down or any other reason, a good number of guys are staying with infy only for the bond signed (1 year). Don know how infy manages to get clients who are ready to pay this much for this kind of job.

Infy joining would get you a good atmosphere, but i doubt on career prospects.

ps : I Joined Infy this year.

Infosys, just like most IT services companies today, sucks! If you are a person with above average IQ,you will get nothing other than frustation from Infosys. But,yes,if you are NOT from A-Grade colleges and have maintained an average(!) academic record throughout, you may gell along well with over one lac people om board.I have working with Infy and can tell you for sure, the quality of manpower and the product they develop and also the processes which they follow are extremely mediocre. So,go for an introspection and if you think you fall in the average percentile(but not below or above it) ,Infy might just be the place you are looking for!!

  36. Anonymous says:

Come on!!! you dont need to be a genius to be an IT guy!! Any kid without a formal education can program. You do not need a HIGH IQ. If you have a high IQ, then you should have become a scientist and pursued academics. Belive me, IT has its challenges, but it has nothing to do with intelligence, it just requires a lot of patience and discipline. There was a time when it was a NEW industry and there were few experts to go around, so they had it all but now, its like any other industry, you start at the bottom, work ur ass off, or suck someone else’s ass off and get ahead.
You do not need to be an automobile engineer to be a mechanic…and you do not need to be a computer engineer to write pieces of code or work on ‘Oracle applications’ or god knows what applications.
On the other hand, building a car or a product needs intelligence and expertise.
I hope you get the picture.

  37. Girish says:

Mr. Rama, take a chill pill dude!
As ur argue doesnt satisfy the real fact ! now we say that the infy is under the pain of stock crisis ….

hope u will be agrreed this time 😉

Infosys sucks. The company is so large, they they dont know what the hell is going on. Just try calling Global support desk. I spent 2 days trying to reach a live person. They kept hanging up on me.

  39. Anonymous says:

If you think you are intellectually somewhat gifted, better stay away from a job @Infosys. Due to its strange HR policies, hierarchial structure, lack of freedom ,slow response time, useless Project Managers and Internal Politics; I think the company, which was once good, now sucks. However its a good place to start your career from. You get good training -a learning experience that counts.Infy infrastructure rocks.Nevertheless, its a sinking ship.

  40. Rahul says:

    Ok- now let me start.

    1. Infosys sucks. Let me just say it and get it out of my system. Hmm! That feels better.

    2. Infosys has now about 100,000 employees and is the most modern form of a sweat shop. They expect all the employees to work for 9 and half hours excluding the security checks, the long walks in their beautiful lawns. If you’re pregnant, they don’t care. If you’re ill, they don’t give rat’s ass.

So let’s see. Infosys is outside the city which makes it up to 3 hours of travel time for most of the employees in most part of the Bangalore. Let’s do a simple math. 3 hours for travel + walking in and walking out of the god damn campus 30 mins + actual 9hour 30 mins = 13 hours. Now, that’s the minimum you could get away with. How about the times when you’re expected to go extra mile?

Now, don’t say that the entire IT industry works like this. It’s completely untrue. I know many companies that value your work rather than just the number of hours you put in the office.

Does Infosys have work-from-home option for those that need it? Absolutely not. Not at least for the most of the lowly lower level employees.

Infosys campuses are shit far from the cities and they cut no slack to their employees with this regard when counting these # of hours.

So there goes the work-life balance. Now, let me repeat it. If you’re pregnant, they don’t care. If you’re ill, they don’t give rat’s ass. They expect you to spend 13 hour a day on the way to work/at work/on the way back from work.

    3. Let’s talk about IT industry standards. Why is Infosys the only company that gives the bare minimum # of PTOs (Leaves) to employees where as every other company has close to twice what Infy has.
Why does the # of leaves happen to be so less for those at lower levels but go up as the ranks go up? How do you justify that?

    4. Infosys treats employees as a herd of sheep. They don’t trust employees. They close dorm doors in the mornings. They even tell you how much time you can spend while eating. I’m not kidding here. Do they’ve right to do so? Yes. Do they have to do it? No.

    5. Not only the career growth sucks at Infosys but also personal growth. I’ve interviewed many Infosys employees during my tenure at another company and somehow they’ve such a narrow field of view. I even worked with Infosys at different levels and most of them seem to lack basic training and hardly knowledgeable on what they’re working. Has anyone seen the curriculum of Infosys new employee training? Do you know how much they try to cram into your head like a typical school in India? And they talk about innovation all the time.

    6. Next point is about the shit Infosys tries to feed the society (and the media seems to be more than happy to spread this shit) about how righteous they’re (they and their demi-gods are) and how others should learn from it and from the demi-gods. Why do we need the opinions of Infosys honchos on everything? Are there no other entrepreneurs other than this bunch? What have they done to the society? Did they even contribute to social causes like Gates foundation does?

    7. Have you heard of any other company that charges employees at the entrance for not meeting the company guidelines for clothes to work? Infosys does, trust me.

    8. These people even order (not assist) outsiders where to park and where not to outside their campuses. I’ve many personal experiences for past 4 years to prove.

    9. Do you know the real working conditions? Working in the conference rooms with the computers arranged around the conference rooms. Working from basements with no toilets. 5 people sitting in 2 person cubicle. Shitty computers from ages back.

  41. Sam says:

I am an Infosys recruit of the 2009 batch and would like to wholeheartedly second everything said here. ANd i have not even joined infosys yet. These fools gave us a joining date , offer letter everything. All of us started preparing for joining , booked our tickets etc. But now they tell us that our dates have gotten postponed by a month. I have given up on other equally remunerative job offers for going to Infosys and this is how they treat us. Let this be a warning to anyone planning to join Infosys.Damn them!!!

  42. Badguy says:

Infosys sucks big time. People like Rama are the reason why Infosys mgmt thinks they can get away with such policies. Recently they have cut leaves of my teammate to make up the remaining time of 9 hrs 15 mins and told him these leaves will not be considered for calculating year ly avg. A 4 billion dollar company stealing a poor chaps leaves ..that speaks volumes

    This compny really sucks.

  43. jamesrbk says:

Infosys Sucks and it sucks a great deal. Am saying it from my experience. They treat employees as slaves. Infosys sucksssssssssss. For all those who think infosys is great-“Live your life man!! Take a break or else end up in asylum”
